New York Knicks legend Willis Reed dies at 80

Willis Reed, the legendary captain and star center for the New York Knicks who led the franchise to its only two championships and was the author of one of the signature moments in NBA history, has died. He was 80.

“The Knicks organization is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Captain, Willis Reed,” the Knicks said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. “As we mourn, we will always strive to uphold the standards he left behind — the unmatched leadership, sacrifice and work ethic that personified him as a champion among champions.

“His is a legacy that will live forever. We ask everyone to please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Bills’ Damar Hamlin suffers cardiac arrest on field vs. Bengals: Buffalo safety in critical condition

A scary and emotional scene unfolded early during Monday night’s game between the Bills and Bengals. With 5:58 remaining in the first quarter, Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed after rising to his feet following a tackle of Bengals wide receivers Tee Higgins. After making the tackle, Hamlin stood up only to suddenly fall to the ground. He received immediate medical attention on the field and was transported to the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Hamlin, 24, suffered a cardiac arrest following the hit with his heartbeat restored on the field, the Bills announced in a statement early Tuesday morning. The team further divulged that Hamlin is “sedated and listed in critical condition.”

Veteran CB Richard Sherman pleads guilty to 2 misdemeanor charges after July arrest

Longtime NFL cornerback Richard Sherman pleaded guilty to a pair of misdemeanor charges on Monday in Seattle following his arrest in the city in July, according to the Seattle Times.

Sherman pleaded guilty to first-degree negligent driving, speeding in a roadway construction zone and second-degree criminal trespass. He was fined $1,500, will be under monitored court supervision for two years and must attend a DUI victim’s panel within 60 days.

Sherman was arrested in July after police said he drove his SUV into a construction zone and crashed. He then fled the scene and tried to break into his in-law’s home later that night.

An 18-year-old boxer is dead after she was knocked unconscious during a match this weekend at IGA Stadium in Montreal.

Jeanette Zacarias Zapata sustained injuries to her brain while fighting Canada’s Marie-Pier Houle on Saturday night, according to the Associated Press. Gwen Berry, White House respond to criticism after her protest at Olympic trials

Olympian Gwen Berry protested during the national anthem during the Olympic trials on Saturday when she turned away from the flag on the medal podium and held a t-shirt over her face.

On Monday, the White House took notice.
