The crooner behind the 1996 ballad “You” passed away peacefully Tuesday in his Los Angeles home, his family said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R&B singer Jesse Powell, best known for the 1996 hit \u201cYou,\u201d died Tuesday at age 51, his family said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powell died \u201cpeacefully\u201d in his Los Angeles home, according to his sisters, the recording artists Trina and Tamara Powell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell,\u201d Tamara Powell said in a statement from the family<\/a> on Instagram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy,\u201d it said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family remembered Powell as a man who loved music and was devoted to his fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want you all to know that you meant the world to him,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
