The prosecutors started by presenting their arguments to the jury.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Prosecuting attorney&nbsp;<strong>Jerry Blackwell<\/strong>&nbsp;argued the former police officer committed homicide during Floyd\u2019s arrest. He said the footage from the scene lays it out clear to anyone who views it.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Blackwell spoke of the viral video of Floyd\u2019s murder that led to worldwide protests demanding police reform.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In opening statement, Special Prosecutor Jerry Blackwell: &quot;On May 25th of 2020, Mr. Derek Chauvin betrayed this badge when he used excessive and unreasonable force upon the body of Mr. George Floyd.&quot;\u00a0<br><br>LIVE UPDATES: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/z4kUCu1Laa\">https:\/\/t.co\/z4kUCu1Laa<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3KOcSkqrVg\">pic.twitter.com\/3KOcSkqrVg<\/a><\/p>&mdash; ABC News (@ABC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ABC\/status\/1376546509387354115?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 29, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure><p><\/p><p>He spoke to the jury members telling them, \u201cYou can believe your eyes, that it&#8217;s a homicide. You can believe your eyes. You\u2019ll be able to hear his voice get deeper and heavier his words further apart, his respiration is more shallow. You&#8217;ll see him when he goes unconscious, and you&#8217;ll be able to see the uncontrollable shaking he\u2019s doing when he\u2019s not breathing anymore.\u201d<\/p><p>Chauvin\u2019s attorney,&nbsp;<strong>Eric Nelson<\/strong>, said his client did nothing wrong. He told the jury the ex-officer \u201cdid exactly what he had been trained to do.&#8221;<\/p><p>He added, &#8220;The use of force is not attractive, but it is a necessary component of policing.<\/p><p>The trial will resume tomorrow. Behind the scenes, prosecutors and Chauvin\u2019s lawyers went at it over evidence before the trial started.<\/p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;According to court documents obtained by&nbsp;<strong>Radar<\/strong>, the prosecutors demanded the court grant their motion to \u201cexclude any characterization of George Floyd\u2019s subjective, internal motivations.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p><p>The motion read, \u201cIn particular, both sides should be permitted to state that, based on MPD policy and his training, Defendant should have (or not) perceived Mr. Floyd to be unable to comply due to a medical condition, a behavioral crisis, or the influence of drug or alcohol use.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.radaronline.com\/brand-img\/2T2ALNv7n\/0x0\/derek-1617063761584.jpg\" alt=\"derek\"\/><\/figure><p>The incident that resulted in Floyd\u2019s death went down on May 25, 2020. The Minneapolis Police originally responded to an alleged forgery in progress. Floyd was accused of buying a pack of cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill.\u00a0<\/p><p>The officers arrived at the scene and found Floyd sitting with two other men in a parked car. Officer&nbsp;<strong>Thomas Lane<\/strong>&nbsp;pulled his gun on Floyd and ordered him to show his hands.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The body camera footage reportedly shows Floyd being cooperative with officers at the start and apologizing to the police as they approached him. Two officers placed Floyd in handcuffs.&nbsp;<\/p><p>As the officers attempted to place Floyd into the police car there was a scuffle between the parties. At some point, Chauvin entered the picture and forcefully slammed Floyd to the ground, and placed his knee on his neck.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The autopsy noted his knee was on Floyd\u2019s neck for over 8 minutes.<\/p><p>Video from the scene showed Floyd pleading \u201cI can\u2019t breathe\u201d as four officers did nothing. The other officer,\u00a0<strong>Tou Thao<\/strong>, was seen scolding bystanders and telling them to back off while they cried for Floyd to be helped.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.radaronline.com\/brand-img\/iKTWTRjBa\/0x0\/__-2021-post-pic-thirds-copy-2-1617064224447.jpg\" alt=\"__  post pic thirds copy\"\/><\/figure><p>Two other officers,&nbsp;<strong>Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng<\/strong>, were involved in the arrest but not seen in the video.<\/p><p>All four officers were fired following Floyd\u2019s death. Chauvin was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-52861726\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested and is facing charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter<\/a>. The three other officers, J. Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao, and Thomas K.
